Training Programme on Translation
A four days
Training Programme on
Translation was organized by the Centre at
Academic Staff College, Gauhati University from 14th
to 17th September,2009 in collaboration
with School of Translation Studies and
Training(SOTST).The training basically emphasized or
discussed the various methods which are applied in
translating texts and also discussed the changes
that have taken place in these methods over the
years. Hon'ble PVC, Prof. O.P. Mishra of IGNOU
during an interactive session with the participants
highlighted the pioneering role that IGNOU is
playing in the field of
education in India. Dr Rustam Rai, Hindi
Officer, Govt of India, discussed the linguistic
dimensions that translators need to be aware of
while translating texts in any languages. The
Programme was also graced by eminent writer and
Jnanpith Award Winner Dr.
Indira (Mamoni)
Roisam
Goswami,
who interacted with the participants and shared her
own experience with translators and translations
regarding her own fictions. She also distributed
certificates to the participants at the end.
